Intercession of the Theotokos

The feast celebrates the protection afforded the faithful through the intercessions of the Theotokos (Virgin Mary).

Its official date of creation is 14 October 1942, day of Intercession of the Theotokos feast.

Kish election were taken place either on January 1, October 1 (Intercession of the Theotokos holiday - Pokrova), or on the 2nd-3rd day of Easter.

The icon is referred to as "Wonderworking" meaning that numerous miracles have been attributed to the intercession of the Theotokos (Mother of God) by persons praying before it.
