M134 Minigun

The weapon is a self-powered, gas-operated variant of the M134 Minigun.

During its Vietnam development, it was fitted with the M134 Minigun, a 7.62 mm electrically operated machine gun.

It is armed with an M60 machine gun in gameplay, though it appears to mount an M134 Minigun in renders and cutscenes.

The Fokker-Leimberger was an early example of an externally powered machine gun of Imperial German origin that predated the M134 Minigun.

During the Vietnam War, the 7.62 mm caliber M134 Minigun was originally created to arm rotary-wing aircraft, and could be fitted to various helicopters as either a crew-served or a remotely-operated weapon.

Originally a primitive attempt of rapid fire before the introduction of belt-feed/magazines and automatic weapons, the application of multiple barrels to modern automatic weapons such as the M134 Minigun have effective performance on the battlefield.

Some weapons-such as the M134 Minigun and related design-use a hybrid mechanism to strip rounds from disintegrating belts into a linkless feed system or a specialized delinker to allow for more reliable feeding at extreme rates of fire.
