Blighia sapida (Sapindaceae)

Hypoglycin A is a naturally-occurring amino acid derivative found in the unripened fruit of the Ackee tree (Blighia sapida).

The ackee, also known as achee, ackee apple or akee (Blighia sapida) is a member of the Sapindaceae (soapberry family), as are the lychee and the longan.

It is called "ackee" in the countries of Barbados, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, however, in the rest of the Caribbean, the latter name is used to refer to the related Blighia sapida.
