This debris may be deposited in graben of the downgoing plate and subducted with it.

The subduction process causes bending of the downgoing plate, creating a deep-sea trench.

At times some of the metamorphosed downgoing slab may be thrust up or obducted onto the continental margin.

The margin seismicity includes continental crust-events and earthquakes in the downgoing oceanic plate.
