It was built in 1972 as a cemetery chapel, but has been expanded into a church.

Fairhaven was dark, with only a few lights glowing in the cemetery chapel.

In 1818 a new, larger church was built, and later a small cemetery chapel.

The old church functioned as a cemetery chapel for the next few decades, standing in the middle of its graveyard.

Until 1952, the small church was merely a cemetery chapel.

In 1866 the cemetery chapel was turned into the parish church.

The adjacent small cemetery chapel is probably the only purely Gothic building in town.

Later, a larger church was built and the smaller one was used as a cemetery chapel.

The earliest church on the site was first recorded in 1190 and may have been a small cemetery chapel.

As such it was the first nondenominational cemetery chapel in Europe.
