Kate's Mountain is the type location for Kate's Mountain Clover, Trifolium virginicum J.K. Small, 1892, the symbol of the West Virginia Native Plant Society.
Meadow steppes have developed in the lower parts of mountain slopes and are covered with zigzag and mountain clovers, Serratula gmelinii, dropwort, meadow-grass and Bromus inermis, reaching the height of 60-80 cm.
The larvae feed on Lathyrus, Medicago lupulina, Ononis repens, Trifolium alpestre, Trifolium medium, Trifolium montanum, Trifolium pratense and Vicia species.
