The college was named after Saint Bernardino of Siena, a 15th-century Italian Franciscan friar and preacher.

She attended a memorial service and then returned to the Convent of Saint Bernardino where she grieved for a month.

A new bigger church was then attached to the older one and dedicated to Saint Bernardino of Siena.
