The species is found on hard surfaces, usually reef plateaus and deep reef slopes.
They inhabit reef slopes from only 1 meter to a depth of 35 meters.
Its habitat is reef margins and outer reef slopes.
It lives close to external reef slopes and lagoons from the surface to 25 m depth.
Outside the atolls, the deep reef slopes support some high value species, but their total potential yield is relatively small.
It is known for this species to occupy inner and outer reef slopes.
We could see the pale green shallows of the reef surrounding it, with the dark reef slopes in deeper water a few hundred feet out.
The reef slope is found at the outer edge of the fringing reef, closest to the open ocean.
The coral cover is dense and healthy even in deep water on the steep outer reef slopes.
It is most commonly found along external reef slopes with clear water until 75 m depth.
